About

I’m Giuseppe Vetri, an Android and mobile engineer. Ten years of it, mostly in Kotlin. I’ve gone through the whole application lifecycle more than once: architecture, features, Google Play releases, and the parts nobody puts on a slide, like CI pipelines, feature flags and analytics.

These days I work on the Android app of a fintech company. I pushed the architecture towards Gradle multi-module, led the migration from XML layouts to Jetpack Compose, and was heavily involved in the design system from the first component through to production. I also wrote a few Gradle plugins for the team, and set up mutation testing, code coverage and Maestro UI automation. Those last three matter more than they sound. Solid tests are what let us use AI tools seriously instead of hoping the output happens to be right.

Part of my week goes to teaching colleagues how to work with different AI models and coding harnesses. I built a small retrieval-augmented generation setup for the Android team as well. These tools changed how I learn. I took what I already knew from Android and used it to get into backend work, deployments, Ansible, WireGuard and Grafana, and I would like to do the same with iOS.

Outside of work I run Records, a personal services environment that I design, deploy and operate myself. It is a WireGuard mesh between spare computers at home and servers at Hetzner, with self-hosted Gitea, Unleash for feature flags, a Ktor backend, and Prometheus with Grafana for monitoring. Hermes bots handle implementation and independent review, and end-to-end tests check the whole system rather than single functions. I stay responsible for the requirements, the architecture, the product decisions and the releases.

I also build hermes-native-client, an open source Android client in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose for a compatible Hermes Gateway, with signed nightly builds.

Here I write about Android, Kotlin, Dart and Flutter, plus the occasional Linux tip. The older articles are in Spanish and the newer ones are in English. You can read everything in either language.
